Here are a few tips I’ve learned to help you have an enjoyable trip:

1) Seasickness – Find out if anyone is your party experiences car sickness, they will most likely need to have something with them to combat seasickness as well.  Although most of the trip is smooth sailing there are a few times when the ship will hit swells that you can feel (like on the trip back and the ship is not going its same leisurely pace as on the way to your destination). Medications and seasickness bands are a few options, however you can also help those who have seasickness out by choosing cabins that are more to the middle of the ship and definitely avoiding cabins at the front or on the tail end of the ship.

2) Meal times – Unless its a free time cruise most will have preset breakfast, lunch and dinner times for your group.  If you will have children in your party or those with special dietary considerations shoot for an early seating. Most late seatings do not get to sit down to dinner until around 9 pm.

3) The Captains dinner: Is intended to be a black tie style/semi-formal affair. Be sure to let all in your group know to bring at least one item of semi-formal clothing for this event.  You are not required to wear this outfit all night. As soon as the dinner was over I slipped back to my cabin to put on more comfortable clothing to wear for the rest of my night of adventures.

4) On shore excursions:  Depending on your cruise destination there are a few items you and your party might want to carry in your bag. Here are a few you can diviy up amongst your party so no one person is carrying it all in their bag: small first aid kit, one to two bottles of water,  a few mini packs of tissues, gum, one or two candy bars, sun screen and one or two extra hats and extra batteries for the camera if bring one.

Holiday Gift – When most people think of the holidays they think of the time starting around Thanks Giving and ending right after the first of the year. Through my years in the gift industry I have found that there are a lot of other holidays or celebrations that occur all year long. Besides New Years Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day we also have a few wacky and unique celebrations that occur in January. We also have Jump Out of Bed Month, Celebration of Life Month and National Poverty Awareness Month just to name a few. View more wacky holidays by month.

Now if you are a person who likes to celebrate the wacky and unique holidays here are a few gift ideas for you. For Jump Out of Bed Month you could use slippers or sneakers as your gift basket for example. Using a new pair of slippers or sneakers you can have your gift consultant create a gift filled with great gadgets and useful items for your recipient. For Poverty Awareness Month you could have small hand out gifts that could be donated to your local homeless shelter such as goodie bags with toiletries or a gift card for a meal.

Making Your Gifts Personal – This can be a pretty easy task when its family or friends but what about when it’s a long time client or even a new client. Observation is the key. I currently have one of the best corporate clients I’ve ever had, why? He’s the best client because he takes the time to get to know his clients. On some of his corporate projects he works with his clients for months and on others it may be for only a few days. The key is that he is aware of the people he works with and when he calls to have me create a custom gift I have all the tools I need from his observations to make his gifts professional and personal.

Personal gifts for family in most cases can be a lot easier. All you would need to do is provide your gift consultant with information regarding a hobby or theme for that persons likes and pretty much anything can be used as the base for creating a wonderful holiday gift basket.

Food Gift – Food gifts can be great when you need a gift for a large party. For example a gourmet food gift basket that offers multiples of smaller food servings so that everyone in the office can have a try of the gourmet goodies. If you will be giving a food gift basket be sure to let your gift consultant know the number of people in the office it will be for to assure there well be enough items in the basket to go around. Customizing with a few added items will sometimes be needed for extra large office groups.

Here are some food gift suggestions when having a gourmet gift created: Cheeses with multiple servings with spreader knives included, jams, crackers, candies, chocolates, the larger bottles of sparkling cider or biscotti.

Gift Specialized – This is one of my favorite types of gifts to create. With specialized gifts I create every item in the gift basket for the recipient. For example the wife of a friend who is a die-hard CSI friend inspired our CSI Show gift. The CSI kit includes edible evidence including the bugs and chocolate or cookie body parts. I brain stormed with her husband to come up with a truly unique gift that was centered on something she would be delighted with and enjoy.

Over the years we have had the pleasure of creating unique patriotic, electrical and team oriented specialized gifts. You provide us the theme and we get to be creative.
So when celebrating the holidays wacky or traditional, lets skip the shelf gifts and make it personal.

Angel's Hands.org

Our annual So Long Summer . . Hello Fall Gift Show & Fundraiser will be held on October 6, 2012, and I hope you will join us with an item or gift certificate for the silent auction. The funds raised will help support the mission of Angel’s Hands.org, a local Utah charity whos mission is to “Improve the quality of life for individuals living with rare diseases.”
Angel’s Hands Foundation (AHF) was founded in 2001 by Mark and Roxann Kristensen, and Steve and Sue Stauffer. Upon returning from a national conference on Kristensen’s son Matt’s disease, the Stauffers and Kristensens decided to raise money to help Utah families deal with the everyday struggles facing families with rare diseases.

AHF supports families in a variety of ways. Assisting families with medical expenses by paying off lingering medical bills and purchasing medical equipment not covered by insurance, has brought relief to families. Even with benefits, these families often struggle to give their children some of the simple joys in life. Hearing aids, wheel chairs, specialty strollers, special beds, braces, therapy spas, specialty bicycles, air conditioning and air filtration systems, special bath tubs, and many other items have been given to our children .

The gift show will be held at the SLCC Karen Gail Miller Conference Center with an influx of shoppers and unique vendors. All of the silent auction gifts will be on display out front just before guest enter, your generosity will be witnessed by many.  One hundred percent of the silent auction funds will be donated to Angel’s Hands Foundation (AHF).

Gifts, gift certificates or gift cards starting as low as ten dollars will be greatly appreciated and bundled together to create larger sized gift baskets.

-       All donations of less than $100.00 will be allowed a copy of their logo on the event registration page (75 x 75 300 dpi max) and listed on the boarder of the vendor map provided to each shopper.

-       Donations of $100 dollars or more are listed on the event website with a copy of their logo (150 x 200 300 dpi max) as well as listed on the back side of the vendor map provided to each shopper.

The biggest item that stood out for me was number two  “Undervaluing Themselves and Their Services”. I can remember at times pitching a price to a company or customer in order to get the job and put my name out there.  When the job was all said and done I saw no further business from that person and had not paid myself for my services, time and supplies in a manner that made me feel good about the sale.

I’ve learned to evaluate the WINS of the customer first and then provide the customer with a high, medium and low options that fits their needs.  If the job needs to be tailored with extra detail, I make sure I charge the customer accordingly for the product and my services.

Each year JAWIB gives out 2-4  $500.00 scholarships to college bound girls who are planning to start their own business or take ownership of an existing business. Our goal it to be able to cover 1-2 of the  $500.00 scholarships.
